One of the best treats about being home is spending time with my cherished Mother. I missed her a ridiculous amount while I was in Brasil. And I missed our outings and baking ventures. So now that I am back, we have been getting around.
Irons & Duck is an industrial style space in downtown LA where our friend David displays his industrial antiques. David literally embodies the industrial look, always dressed in worn jeans and cool vests and striped shirts. I love to go down to his space. I purchased an old dress rack. And this green table will soon be at home in my Mom's craft room.
Down the street is a store called California Millinery, and they are stocked with seemingly endless shelves of drool-worthy old ribbon, from French grosgrain to color-soaked velvet. It is an inspiring bit on color and the old craft of hat-making.
Other outings have taken us to the Fair Oaks Antique Mall, where I fell in love with an industrial shelf with the coolest paint on it.
We also hit up the Agoura Hills antique mall, which had quite a few covetable items, unfortunately I have no pictures to show.
Last week we had an uncharacteristically warm day, and we wentto the Huntington, which is a museum estate. It's inspiring and lovely. I fell in love with the snowball hydrangea tree. They have an extensive camelia garden also, which is lovely. I also find amazing their impressive urns, dotting the perfectly manicured grounds. The sun felt great, and we toured the American collection, so I was able to dive back into my beloved art.
And, not to leave out the favorite pasttime of baking. We made chocolate whoppers, which are my favorite cookie, well, one of my favorites. They are divine, chock full of walnuts, pecans, chocolate chips, and dark chocolatey-ness. We also made rice krispy treats and dipped them in dark chocolate for a bridal shower for our dear friend Chris Weston's Fiance, Amanda Crabtree. I have created other delicious things, lemon loafs, raspberry muffins, and brownies. I love baking.
Okay, unreals love the eye candy, those chocolate whoppers sound good chock full of nuttiness.
ReplyDeleteI like the antiques you found, you need to look for non female related antiques. Ryan's sister Leanna when she was single stocked up on all this female related awesome anthro stuff, and her husband Nate is always saying that he feels like he lives in a chic's pad. Between the female bust mannequin, and the newly purchased dress hanger antique you're well on your way to having the ultimate pad for a chic. I don't know how long you'll be enjoying it! Remember what President Moreina said - may not be too far away! Although I love the purchases. haha!! Just teasing you -
