weekend delight
The last two weekends were ones I had looked forward to for years. My dear brother Chandler returned from his mission in the Dominican Republic and I got to go home to spend a few days with him as he recuperated. For those of you who know Chan know that he's an eccentric kid. He's creative and funny. He was definitely still in ultra-gospel mode, but he got right back into surfing, as you can see. I took him to a few of my favorite spots in Santa Monica, and it was interesting to see his lack of interest in shopping, and his overall marveling of the surroundings. I remember those feelings of awe to be again surrounded by the comfort of the States, and how that makes you think and evaluate if that plays a role in constructing your identity.
Last weekend we drove down to La Canada for Chan's homecoming. Saturday was like being in a dream, I took Whitney to Europane in Pasadena and I think everyone would benefit from trying their scones and brioche with chocolate. Nothing short of divine. We grabbed AJ from the airport and went to Latigo in Northern Malibu to surf. We stayed in the water for several hours, I couldn't get enough; I stayed in until my arms wouldn't paddle one more foot. The day was ideal, the weather perfect, and all 7 of us crammed in the truck: Dad, Chan, AJ, Tay, Sheb, me and Whitney. Super fun. Saturday night my Mom put out a beautiful dinner, with burgundy try-tip, butternut squash ravioli, salad and fruit. Eating basically anything in the chateau makes it taste better.
Sunday Chan gave his talk and really delivered. He was a dedicated missionary who truly loved the people and enjoyed seeing their lives improve. Everyone came over afterwards for leek strata, bran muffins, fruit and juice. It was a great time, lots of friends came out to support. The only bummer is I didn't take any pictures!!! There are a few on my parent's camera, but that's at home.
