I wanted to share some things that I have found joy in recently. First, we went down to Malibu last weekend to find respite from the Utah winter and I made a trip to Bountiful, one of our favorite antique spots in LA. The owner of Bountiful grew up in Bountiful, UT, hence the name yet her store in no way resembles Utah style. She stocks the most amazing antiques and it's always loaded from floor to ceiling. It's one of my favorite places to go when I'm home. Naturally I always find a few items that I feel embody my ideal style, for example this French screen with beveled glass and mini nailhead trim. It doesn't get much better than Bountiful!
Driving back to the house from Venice, we passed a little street called Bay Drive and I spotted the place I want to live sometime in the near future. It's perfect. I can just see my space filled with Bountiful antiques. Very sparsely decorated but each piece a specimen.
Coming back through Santa Monica, we headed down the California Incline and I was awestruck by the incredible view. The picture does not do justice. The brilliant sky, calm sand, and carefree clouds brought joy to me. The sight was quintessentially California. You can't help but feel warm.
We went to the Getty Villa and there was a tree I loved. I wish I had those branches all over my house in big glass vases. Heather and I enjoyed the view and the stories about Pompeiian villa life. I felt a little of that lush life as we hung out in Malibu all weekend. It was nothing less than paradise!
Coming back to Provo was a bit depressing, but we've had gorgeous weather the last few days. The 80 or so inches of fresh snow up at the Bird didn't hurt either! We had an epic run on Tuesday when they opened Road to Provo. There are few things that feel as good as gliding through deep, fresh powder. The feeling is so intense it escapes as joyous screams. I live for those moments.
These things are the ones that keep me going when I am swamped by school and feel like I am slowly being smothered.
Haley! I am so glad that I finally got to catch up on your blog. I just love your take on life - your creativity, love of aesthetics, and superb taste. AND ... those pizzas look PHENOMENAL.
ReplyDeleteI love Malibu! The entire area has so much character. I love your guys' beach house. I hope you stay in California. That getty villa is amazing, I was reading in Architectural Digest - they did a piece on his grandson's house. Really neat, I'll have to show it to you.
