Camping joys

After dropping Lance off at the airport, me and my Mom continued on south to San Elijo Campground, our favorite camp right on the beach. We enjoyed two surf sessions a day, and I mostly barebacked it, the water felt amazing. Monday Heather and Ryan came down to hang out and we had a blast. Heather is trying to get the boy's skin to adapt to the sun, so they are usually in their diapers, although Finn was sporting a euro speedo this time. Ryan came surfing and although his board is lacking, he was able to catch a few waves, and feel a bit of the stoke of riding the waves. I admire his determination to get surfing down so that when Finn can get in the water, he'll be ready to teach him to surf. Stick with it, Ry.
My Dad made it down with the motorhome Tuesday night, and it was great having him. If you know the Frames, you know we are a family slightly obsessed with food, and we have our favorite spots right there in Cardiff by the Sea, across the street from the camp. My favorite is VG's. And this time, my Mom introduced me to a new favorite, the chocolate chocolate, a chocolate cake donut with chocolate glaze. Our other two favorites are the chocolate glazed, and the chocolate chip croissant.

Another favorite spot is Besta Wan, a pizzeria right up the street from VG's. Dinner for Maren's birthday Monday night revealed a new culinary discovery, our pizza had toasted walnuts on it, along with pesto, mozzarella, fresh ricotta. Oh my, it was sooo tasty. Unfortunately I again failed to document, but you can picture it in your head.
We also enjoyed the company of Terry Price, his son Theron and wife Rachel. Maren came down twice and Skee and his girl Lizzie came down Friday. I wanted to stay there longer, but Saturday morning I had to leave to make it back for my haircut.
