More than listing all of these activities, though, I have felt a connection with this city. There is a farmers market east of the capitol called, aptly, Eastern Market, which I go to almost every Saturday. I adore markets; they instantly make me feel like a local. And the blue bucks with pecan topping are fantastic, especially shared with Heather and enjoyed sitting on the cement floor in front of a raw meat case. Being here in the fall really helps because I love the changing leaves and that brisk air backed by blue skies. Experiencing all these things with people I have grown to love makes each piece special and crafts a beautiful puzzle that fits together in my memory.

Regrets? Nonsense
The ending of my special DC semester begs the question, Do I have any regrets? And I answer confidently, absolutely not. You see, I have experienced DC for all its worth. I have made quality, life-long friends and traveled all over the eastern seaboard with them. I have stood for many minutes in front of paintings and contemplated how they make me feel. I love Jan Lieven's paintings, if only I could glow like the figures he paints! I have walked the city's monuments in the sun and the dark. I have overlooked the city from atop the Washington Monument. I have kayaked in the Potomac and ridden a bike around the Mall. I drove up the coast to Boston and explored that history-filled city. I toured Mt. Vernon and Monticello. I spent two separate weekends in New York City. I have seen shows and taken advantage of our close proximity to Georgetown shops. I have eaten my share of delicious food and spent far too much money.

You are all over it! Haley those pictures are so cute of you! I've had so much fun going to museums with you and just exploring.
ReplyDeleteWe really need to go to 2Amy's before we go. I want to go there so badly. We have to make it happen.
As well, we need to go to the Philips Collections together one more time before we leave! To think only 7 more days of work!
Love,
Heath
Hay, you are such a good writer. I love getting your emails every day and reading your blog, because you phrase it all so well....it's like the way I feel comes out onto the page through your words.
